Barclays Capital Launches Emerging Markets Tradable Inflation-Linked Bond Index

Barclays Capital, publisher of leading inflation-linked and fixed income benchmarks, today announced the launch of a new Emerging Markets Tradable Government Inflation-Linked Bond (EMTIL) Index. The EMTIL Index represents the latest addition to the Barclays Capital Emerging Markets Index family of benchmark bond indices (hard currency, local currency and inflation-linked indices), tradable EM debt indices, EM FX access products, and EM interest rate swaps indices.

The EMTIL Index is a rule-based index that provides diversified exposure to local currency inflation-linked debt from Emerging Markets sovereign issuers represented in the flagship Emerging Markets Government Inflation-Linked Bond benchmark index. Rebalanced annually, the EMTIL Index is a tradable subset that includes the most liquid bonds from eligible EM inflation-linked issuers, with caps and floors per country to ensure diversification across markets. Local currency inflation-linked markets measured in the EMTIL Index include Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Turkey, South Africa, Poland, and South Korea.

“The EMTIL Index is a logical extension of our leading inflation-linked index family and underscores our commitment to offering index users a complete spectrum of Emerging Markets indices,” said Waqas Samad, Head of Index, Portfolio and Risk Solutions for Barclays Capital. “Global debt managers, many of whom are already using Barclays Capital benchmarks for their fixed income assets, will benefit directly from the depth, expertise, and client solutions offered by our growing EM index platform.”

The EMTIL Index follows the launch of the EM Tradable USD Sovereign Index in April 2010 and is the latest in a steady pipeline of other EM tradable bond index launches planned as part of the Barclays Capital EM index platform.
