On September 7, 2011, Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, AG (“Allied World”) issued a
press release announcing additional synergies that can be achieved through its merger with
Transatlantic Holdings, Inc. (“Transatlantic”) as well as reaffirming the current terms of the
merger agreement with Transatlantic. A copy of the press release is attached hereto as Exhibit
99.1 and is incorporated by reference herein.
